When I became pregnant with my first child, I was beyond ecstatic. As the months passed, the feeling of happiness started getting mixed in with anxiety. I felt like there was so much to learn to prepare myself, yet so little time. I spent that nervous energy researching away… From topics like what my body was going through, what to expect during labor and birth all the way to exciting things like picking out things for baby. Breastfeeding was not at the top of my list to read up on. After all, it’s a natural thing to do, right? The innate instincts of motherhood should take over as humans have existed for centuries. Piece of cake! I was wrong!

Confessions of a Mom: Mom Guilt

Mom guilt! Let’s talk about that.

I am a working mom. I have a 3-year old and a 5-month old. I went through almost the exact same thing leading up to the birth of both my children… at home, I was nesting – terribly! I wanted to organize everything to make room for baby. At work, I was putting in extra hours to get ready for maternity leave. I barely slept in anticipation for my little one’s arrival. Finally, the big day was here! All of the things that kept me up at night on the matters of the home and work had taken a back seat, because now, I have a new focus. My precious little bundle of joy has entered the world. And just like that, I knew my only job was to take care of this helpless tiny human that I loved so dearly.

We visited Las Vegas with our 19-month old toddler when my long-time pen pal and friends from Belgium came to the USA for the first time. We were excited and nervous at the same time as we planned for this trip that’s been years in the making. As fate would have it, my poor baby caught a stomach bug a few days before the trip.

Like any logical actions first-time parents take, we rushed to the pediatrician’s office to have her checked. The doctor advised to let her system work through it. In the meantime, our job was to keep her hydrated. With that, we were cleared to travel. Oh boy! We were in for a trip! We certainly knew it was going to be rough. Nonetheless, we made the most of it.

I was in the process of doing research on how to store breast milk and what was available in the market when a friend of mine gifted me the Kiinde Kozii Breastmilk and Bottle Warmer. This is probably the most expensive purchase in the system, so I began to look into the company’s products. This post will not be covering a comparison of other systems because I didn’t get to try them. Below, I’ll be covering the advantages and the disadvantages of the system based on my experience.

I’m not unique… like many people, I enjoy travelling. But the truth is, the thought of travelling with a toddler seriously made me want to reconsider my hobbies and interests… only for the time being. New hobby: Avid homebody. Before my first child was born, I would read books and articles of experiences from other moms on how they welcomed baby and what the next few months was like for them. In truth, none of these truly prepared me for what I was about to experience.

Nursing Bras

I skimped on nursing bras with my first born as I was not very successful with breastfeeding, so when my second one came along, I thought I would make do with a regular bra. If you’re like me and thinking of doing the same thing, I urge you not to.

The beautiful coastal town of Rockport, Texas has been a favorite weekend destination for many. It’s been two years since Hurricane Harvey hit the area. The town has cleaned up nicely in a very short time. Today, we took a stroll in Downtown Rockport. A little bit of window shopping and a little bit of actual shopping with the kids… The simple joys of life. There are several shops that have unique and cool things to offer. If art interests you, you can also find art galleries in this area. I highly recommend it. Here are photos from today’s walk.

San Francisco is a beautiful city with so many sights and landmarks known to the world. When we became parents, we committed to continue to do the things we love – one of them being traveling. Funny enough, we rarely braved the outside world with our little one, not even to the market (seriously) prior to this trip. So, when we committed to travel, we had so much research and planning to do.

I am fortunate to have insurance that allows me to obtain an electric breast pump free of cost to me. However, when I found myself back at work and in meetings that would last all day, pumping at work soon became a challenge. I was very determined to make breastfeeding work this time and seriously began considering purchasing a portable pump. After much research, I found two wearable breast pumps in today’s market: the Willow and the Elvie. After much research, I decided to opt for the Elvie.
